Ingredients

For the Waffles

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring optional for a deeper red color

For the Cream Cheese Drizzle

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  • Preheat your waffle iron to 375°F and lightly grease if needed.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs, whole milk, buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and a few drops of red food coloring until fully combined.
  • Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Small lumps are perfectly fine and help create fluffy Red Velvet Waffles.
  • Pour batter evenly into the preheated waffle iron slots. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side or until waffles are crisp and cooked through.
  • While the waffles cook, prepare the cream cheese drizzle. Beat softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and heavy cream until smooth and pourable.
  • Drizzle the cream cheese topping over warm waffles and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute whole milk with almond milk or oat milk.
  • Greek yogurt can replace buttermilk in a pinch.
  • Add mini chocolate chips for a dessert-style brunch recipe.
  • Serve with fresh berries, maple syrup, or powdered sugar.
