Ingredients

  • 16 ounces button mushrooms halved
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter divided
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • ¾ cup drained sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1½ cups chicken broth
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ⅓ cup chopped fresh basil plus more for garnish
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes plus more for garnish if desired
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and nicely browned.
  • Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and sprinkle in the flour. Stir well to form a smooth paste around the mushrooms.
  • Add the minced garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Stir for about 30 seconds to release the garlic and spice aromas.
  • Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, followed by the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Continue cooking and stirring until the sauce becomes creamy and begins to thicken.
  • Stir in the fresh basil and red pepper flakes. Taste and season with salt and black pepper as needed.
  • Serve these Marry Me Mushrooms immediately over mashed potatoes, pasta, or rice. Garnish with additional basil and red pepper flakes if desired.

Notes

Serve the mushrooms with creamy mashed potatoes, your favorite pasta, steamed rice, or crusty bread for soaking up the sauce. For a heartier meal, spoon the mushrooms and sauce over pasta and add extra Parmesan and basil before serving.
