  • 1 cup soy sauce low sodium preferred
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp chicken broth replacement for Shaoxing wine
  • 1 –2 tbsp sriracha optional
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar replacement for mirin
  • 2 tsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp ginger minced

To Thicken:

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water

For Serving:

  • 1 –2 heads broccoli steamed or roasted
  • Cooked white rice
  • Green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Prep the chicken: Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces and toss with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  • Cook the chicken: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken for 6–8 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Make the sauce: Whisk soy sauce, honey, chicken broth, sriracha, vinegar, garlic, and ginger.
  • Combine chicken & sauce: Lower heat to medium and pour sauce into skillet. Let it simmer gently.
  • Add slurry: Mix cornstarch and water, then whisk into the skillet.
  • Thicken: Cook 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken beautifully. This is where the Honey Garlic Chicken Rice Bowls come together.
  • Assemble bowls: Serve over rice with broccoli, then garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Swap chicken breast with chicken thighs for juicier texture
  • Use brown rice or cauliflower rice for a healthier option
  • Drizzle with extra sauce before serving for more flavor
