Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 whole wheat burger buns
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup julienned carrots
  • 1 jalapeño thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro optional

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper until evenly mixed.
  • Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and lightly oil the grates.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal patties and make a shallow indentation in the center of each.
  • Grill the Grilled Turkey Burgers with Spicy Jalapeño Slaw patties for 5–7 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  • Meanwhile, combine the cabbage, carrots, jalapeño, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, honey, and cilantro in a large bowl. Toss until well coated.
  • Toast the whole wheat buns on the grill for 1–2 minutes until lightly crisp.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing each turkey patty on the bottom bun, topping generously with the spicy jalapeño slaw, and adding the top bun. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Greek yogurt can replace mayonnaise for a lighter slaw.
  • Brioche or multigrain buns also work well.
  • Serve with grilled vegetables, baked sweet potato fries, or a fresh green salad.
