Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups fresh sweet cherries pitted and halved
  • 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk or nondairy milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • Optional: 1–2 Tablespoons coarse sugar

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Place butter in a baking dish and let it melt in the oven.
  • In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add milk, vanilla, and almond extract. Mix until smooth.
  • Remove the dish and spread cherries evenly over melted butter.
  • Pour batter evenly over cherries—do not stir.
  • Sprinkle coarse sugar on top if desired.
  • Bake for 55–60 minutes until golden and set.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.
