In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, warm water, and salt for about 2 minutes until smooth.
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in 1 tablespoon of warm water.
Add the yeast mixture, sugar, and baking powder to the batter and whisk for another 30 seconds.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a plate.
Let the batter rest in a warm place for 15–30 minutes until the surface becomes bubbly and foamy.
Lightly grease crumpet rings with melted butter.
Brush a non-stick skillet with melted butter and place the rings inside.
Heat the skillet over medium heat until hot.
Fill each ring about one-quarter full with batter.
Cook for about 1½ minutes until bubbles begin to appear.
Reduce the heat to medium and cook for another minute as the bubbles begin to pop.
Lower the heat to medium-low and continue cooking for 2½–4 minutes until the tops are fully set.
Carefully remove the rings.
Flip each crumpet and cook the other side for 20–30 seconds until lightly golden.
Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.
