Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1¼ pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1½ cups orzo pasta
  • 1½ cups vegetable broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine paprika, oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels and season both sides generously with the spice mixture.
  • Heat the cooking oil in a large deep skillet over medium heat.
  • Sear the chicken for about 5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  • Reduce the heat to low and sauté the diced onion and minced garlic for about 3 minutes until softened.
  • Add the orzo and vegetable broth, stirring well to loosen all the flavorful browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  • Return the chicken to the skillet, nestling it into the orzo.
  • Cover and bring everything to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce to low heat and simmer for about 15 minutes until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
  • Remove the chicken again and stir the heavy cream and butter into the orzo until smooth.
  • Add the grated Parmesan cheese and stir until melted into a creamy sauce.
  • Return the chicken to the skillet and spoon the creamy sauce over the top. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve your Creamy Chicken and Orzo Skillet immediately.

Notes

  • Vegetable broth keeps the flavors balanced, while chicken broth can provide a richer taste if preferred.
  • Fresh parsley adds brightness and color.
  • For extra creaminess, stir in an additional splash of heavy cream before serving.
  • Pair with a crisp green salad or roasted vegetables for a complete comfort food dinner.
