Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 can 8 oz refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
  • 1 can 6.5 oz crabmeat, drained
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper to prevent the pastry from sticking.

Step 2: Prepare the cream cheese filling

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped green onions, and dried dill weed.
  • Mix until everything is evenly incorporated and the filling is smooth and creamy. Set aside while you prepare the dough.

Step 3: Prepare the crescent roll dough

  • Unroll the refrigerated crescent dinner rolls onto your prepared baking sheet.
  • Arrange the dough into one large rectangle, gently pressing the perforations together to create a continuous sheet.
  • Make sure the seams are well sealed so the filling stays inside during baking.

Step 4: Add the crabmeat

  • Spoon the drained crabmeat evenly down the center of the crescent roll dough.
  • Spread it into a neat layer, leaving enough space along both sides of the dough to fold over the filling.

Step 5: Add the cream cheese mixture

  • Spoon the prepared cream cheese filling over the crabmeat.
  • You can gently shape the filling with your hands before placing it on top to help create an even layer.
  • This rich, creamy filling is what makes the Crab Cream Cheese Appetizer so delicious and satisfying.

Step 6: Fold and seal the dough

  • Carefully fold the long edges of the crescent dough over the crab and cream cheese filling.
  • Overlap the edges slightly and pinch them together to seal the pastry.
  • Seal both ends as well, then carefully turn the roll over so the seam rests on the bottom of the baking sheet.

Step 7: Brush with egg yolk

  • Using a pastry brush, lightly coat the top of the dough with the egg yolk.
  • This helps the pastry develop a beautiful golden-brown color as it bakes.

Step 8: Bake until golden brown

  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
  • If necessary, bake for a few additional minutes until the dough is fully baked.

Step 9: Slice and serve

  • Remove the pastry from the oven and allow it to rest for about 5 minutes.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into individual slices and serve warm.

Notes

This baked crab appetizer tastes especially delicious when served warm, while the pastry is still crisp and the filling remains soft and creamy.
For a slightly different flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder, a little lemon zest, or freshly chopped parsley to the cream cheese mixture.
You can also substitute fresh cooked crabmeat for canned crabmeat. Make sure it is fully cooked, free of shell fragments, and thoroughly drained before using.
For a party appetizer with crab, arrange the sliced pastry on a serving platter with lemon wedges, fresh herbs, and a small bowl of creamy dipping sauce.
A simple green salad, fresh cucumber slices, or a colorful vegetable platter makes a refreshing accompaniment to the rich pastry.
If you're serving this appetizer at a gathering, cut the roll into smaller portions to create easy-to-handle finger food.
