Ingredients

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups old-fashioned oats
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1½ cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter melted
  • 14- ounce bag soft caramels unwrapped
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 11.5-ounce bag milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, and melted butter until evenly mixed.
  • Press half of the oat mixture firmly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.
  • Meanwhile, place the unwrapped caramels and heavy whipping cream in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until smooth.
  • Remove the crust from the oven and immediately sprinkle the milk chocolate chips evenly over the warm crust.
  • Carefully pour the warm caramel mixture over the chocolate chips.
  • Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer, gently flattening some pieces with your hands to create even coverage.
  • Bake the Carmelita Recipe for another 12–15 minutes, just until the topping turns lightly golden.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing for clean layers.

Notes

  • Store-bought caramel bits may be substituted for wrapped caramels.
  • Serve slightly warm with vanilla ice cream.
  • Drizzle with chocolate sauce for an extra indulgent dessert.
  • Great for holiday cookie trays and bake sales.
