Bourbon Chicken Recipe

Ingredients
  

Bourbon Sauce

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup apple juice mixed with 1 tablespoon vanilla extract as a halal-friendly bourbon substitute
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 to 3 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

Chicken

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs or chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onion

Instructions
 

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, orange juice, brown sugar, apple juice mixture, soy sauce, minced garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, and cornstarch until smooth.
  • Cut the chicken into bite-sized cubes, about 1 inch in size. Season with salt and black pepper.
  • Heat a large wok or deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil and sesame oil and allow them to heat for about 1 minute.
  • Add the chicken pieces and cook for 8–10 minutes until browned on the outside and fully cooked through.
  • Reduce the heat to medium and pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. Stir well so the chicken is coated evenly.
  • Simmer the Bourbon Chicken Recipe for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot over steamed rice.

Notes

  • Serve with jasmine rice, fried rice, or noodles.
  • Add toasted sesame seeds for extra flavor and texture.
  • Leftover sauce tastes delicious drizzled over vegetables.
  • You can prepare the sauce mixture ahead of time for quicker cooking.
