Ingredients
  

Apple Filling

  • 6 cups apples peeled and diced into 1-inch pieces
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon or apple pie spice

Crumble Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • cup granulated sugar
  • cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground ginger optional
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter cut into cubes

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and ginger.
  • Add the cold butter and cut it into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until large crumbs form.
  • Refrigerate the crumble topping while preparing the apples.
  • Place the diced apples into a 2-quart baking dish.
  • Toss the apples with the granulated sugar, flour, and cinnamon until evenly coated.
  • Sprinkle the chilled crumble evenly over the apples.
  • Bake the Apple Crumble Recipe uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy plain or with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce.
  • Pears can replace part of the apples for a different flavor.
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth.
